Check that your microphone works, that the right one is selected, and how loud you actually sound. Speak and the meter moves; record a few seconds and play it back to hear what the other end hears.

Your browser will ask permission to use the microphone when you start the test. Nothing is captured before you allow it, and nothing leaves your device afterwards.
What the meter is telling you
Normal speech should push the bar into the middle of its range and leave headroom at the top. A bar that barely moves means the input gain is too low or the wrong device is selected. A bar pinned to the maximum means you are clipping, which sounds harsh and distorted no matter how good the microphone is.
Silence that still shows a constant low reading is background noise — a fan, an air conditioner, a nearby computer. That noise is being transmitted the whole time you are not speaking.
If the browser hears nothing
Work through it in this order: check the browser granted permission (the icon in the address bar), check the right device is picked in the dropdown above, check the operating system has the same device selected and not muted, and check any physical mute switch on the microphone or headset cable.
On a headset with its own mute button, the browser and the operating system will both report a working microphone that produces silence, because the mute happens in the hardware after they have finished looking.
Nothing here leaves your device
Every one of these tests runs entirely in your browser using standard web APIs. No audio, video, keystroke or controller input is uploaded, recorded on a server, or stored anywhere — there is no upload endpoint for any of it to go to. Closing the tab discards everything.
Common questions
How do I test my microphone?
Allow the browser to use it, then speak normally and watch the level meter move. Record a few seconds and play it back — hearing yourself is the only way to judge quality rather than just presence of signal.
Is my recording uploaded anywhere?
No. The audio never leaves your device. It is held in the browser tab and discarded when you close it — there is no upload endpoint for it to go to.
Why is my mic quiet even at full volume?
Usually the input gain is low in the operating system sound settings, or a headset is picking the laptop microphone rather than its own. Switch device in the dropdown and watch which one responds.
